Join the Big Energy Credit Claim Back!

If you pay for your energy by direct debit, you’ll build up credit on your account over the summer to cover the cost of higher energy use in winter. Spreading the cost over the year this way should leave you with a minimal amount of credit in May or June.

But that’s not what’s happening. Energy firms are taking more in direct debits than they need to, sitting on money that belongs to you. It’s time to claim it back.

Claim back your credit

We’ve done the research into the process for claiming back your credit for the eight major energy companies. Just fill out the form below to let us know who your energy supplier is, and we’ll send you instructions on what to do next.

Why now?

Recent figures show that energy firms are sitting on £3 billion of our money, even as households are counting every penny to make ends meet. It’s yet another symptom of the broken energy system that this government has failed to fix.

If we all claim back our credit as part of a coordinated moment, we can turn it into a movement for a better energy system. Together we can take the power back, and show that we’re fed up with energy companies taking us for a ride. And it will show this government that we are fed up with their inaction.

What do I need to do?

  • If you pay for your energy by direct debit, simply sign up using the form at the top of the page, and we'll send you an email with the next steps.
  • Although it’s frustrating to keep sending payments to your energy supplier while you’re in credit, do not cancel your direct debit! It could end up costing you even more.
  • If you don’t pay for your energy by direct debit, you won’t be able to take this action - but you can still get involved by sharing the campaign with friends, family, or social media networks.
